YOUR WORKSPACE
CSV / TSV

Paste a whole CSV file or open one below. No data is saved by this tool.

UTF-8 · up to 1 MiB · 20,000 records · 200 columns · 100,000 cells. Open a file to preserve its exact CR/LF record endings; manual edits use the text area’s LF endings.

Ready when you are. Nothing is uploaded or saved by this tool.

Not a CSV repair tool. Quoted multiline fields are valid CSV. Flatten them only when your downstream workflow needs single-line cells. We reject malformed quotes and inconsistent nonblank record widths instead of guessing.

How to remove CSV cell line breaks without merging rows

  1. Paste your CSV or open a UTF-8 file. Choose comma, tab, or semicolon if detection is uncertain. Click Parse & preview.
  2. Check the parsed record and column counts. Keep the header option on only if the first nonblank record contains column names. Select all columns or just the notes, description, or address columns you want to flatten.
  3. Replace embedded CRLF, CR, or LF with one space or the literal characters \n. Review the before-and-after cells and counts, then download a separate file.

Useful for CRM notes, form answers, calendar-export descriptions, and CSV imports that expect one physical line per record. A proper CSV parser may already handle multiline fields; use one instead when you need the original formatting.

Example: a valid multiline CSV field

Before · two records, not three

id,notes
00123,"First line
Second line"

After · same two records, space replacement

id,notes
00123,"First line Second line"

With literal \n instead: 00123,"First line\nSecond line". Existing literal \n text is not escaped or distinguished from replacements.

CSV cell newline remover FAQ

Will it keep CSV records, quotes, empty fields, and leading zeros?

Yes. The tool changes only actual CRLF, CR, or LF characters inside selected quoted fields. It keeps all other source text, including delimiters, doubled quotes, empty fields, spaces, Unicode, a UTF-8 BOM if present, and record separators. Values remain strings: 00123 and long IDs are not converted to numbers. Spreadsheet software can still reinterpret them on import; choose text columns there when needed.

What happens to empty records or files without a header?

Physically empty records are kept exactly as they are and are excluded from column-width checks. A final record separator does not create an extra phantom record. A quoted empty field ("") is a real one-column record, not a blank-line exception. Turn off the header option for files without column names. A protected multiline header can leave cell line breaks in the output.

Does this fix malformed CSV or detect every delimiter?

No. Auto-detection supports comma, tab, and semicolon only, and accepts a unique, consistent multi-column interpretation. Ambiguous inputs and one-column files require an explicit delimiter. Unclosed quotes, bare quotes, text after closing quotes (including spaces), and inconsistent nonblank record widths stop processing. There is no silent quote repair, trimming, encoding detection, or Excel sep= preamble support.

Is it safe to open the output in Excel or another spreadsheet?

Treat CSV from untrusted sources with care. Spreadsheet apps may execute formula-like cells, including values beginning with =, +, -, or @. We warn about these values, but do not sanitize them or silently add apostrophes. Quoting a CSV field does not neutralize a spreadsheet formula. Use a text-only import and review the source; the warning is not a complete security scanner.

Is my CSV uploaded or stored? What are the limits?

Processing happens in browser memory. This page does not upload CSV content, call APIs, use analytics, or store your data in browser storage. Reset clears this tool’s input and output. Your browser may have its own session-restore behavior. Only UTF-8 text up to 1 MiB, 20,000 records, 200 columns, and 100,000 cells is supported. XLSX, legacy encodings, and large files are outside this tool’s scope.

Can I undo the flattening?

Keep the original file. Replacing line breaks with spaces loses their positions; literal \n can collide with text that was already present. The output is a separate download, not a reversible archive. The preview shows a limited number of cells; the downloaded file contains the complete processed input.
